This is not to say that we all don't scowl from time-to-time, we do. But the Crittenden scowl is part of a constant public projection. On the other hand, our scowls, presumably, are periodic and specific. John Dean, Nixon's Watergate lawyer, has stumbled (admittedly!) into this area in a general way, in the context of the current neo-con nutcase/psychopath, in his book 'Conservatives Without Conscience:

Now, what is more intimidating that the concept of terrorism? Not much. Therefore it should not surprise anyone that the neo-con psychopath, devoid of the ability if not the desire to simply/calmly tell the truth, would resort to the mechanisms of terrorism from all directions and used against all would-be debaters. As Ty Rauber and Ryan Thurston highlight in their film, 'Who Killed John O'Neill,' dissent is one of the first things that must be eliminated. Likewise, intimidation of reader dissent is a central purpose of the adolescent Crittenden scowl.

In my/our work of the last twelve years with product litigation I have learned an enormous amount about people and society, specifically how these react to confrontation no matter how benign. I have prepared the lawyers for and subsequently sat in the room when some of the most powerful corporate executives in history are forced to answer simple questions regarding topics to which they have previously and LOADLY claimed expertise. Once under oath and subjected to the same process as the 'common man,' the truth eventually flows; that in-fact is the central point of the legal process: the truth! This process involves not just out-intimidating the intimidators, BUT ALSO deploying mechanisms that have long-evolved within the 'legal process' that make the scowl irrelevant if not worthless/counterproductive.

In this context it should not surprose anyone, that when asked to go under oath as part of the 911 Commission investigation, the two scowlers Bush and Cheney ADAMANTLY refused to do so.

The media USED to deploy mechanisms that also evoked the truth. But no more. Indeed the planting of Jeff Gannon into the White House briefing room to ask only questions that Bush wants to answer are just the proverbial tip of the media's slide from the lofty perch as the Fourth Estate down into a shrilling ghetto, doing so in-behalf of both the neo-cons and their corporate sponsors:

As soon as I looked at the Crittenden scowl I knew he was a micro version of Bush/Cheney. His response to Rick is endemic, as is his non-response to my simple question.
